Tacos Lupita

November 6th, 2007

PK & I finally checked out Tacos Lupita. It is sort of pathetic that it took us so long to go there after hearing so many good things about it over the years.
We ordered three tacos (carne asada de res, al pastor, and pollo; $1.99 each). All were fantastic. I think that I liked the pork taco the best.

We also got a Mulitas stuffed with al pastor ($3.25). This was the highlight. While it seems to be a close relative of the quesadilla, the mulitas consisted of two thick corn tortillas stuffed with cheese and pork.

We also ordered a tamale and an horchata. While both were quite tasty, they were not exceptional.

Verdict: Fantastic!

Mama Blanca

On the day that PK and I went to Santarpio’s, we also stopped at Mama Blanca to check out their pupusas. We wanted to try a few other items on their menu, but we were already too full. We had a pork and cheese pupusa and a ground chicken pupusa. While I was not a fan of the chicken, the pork and cheese pupusa was delicious.

Verdict: Since I still have many pupuserias to check out in East Boston, I can only claim that Mama Blanca makes the best pupusas that I have had yet.

La Pupusa Guanaca

January 9th, 2006

Pupusaempanada

The other day, a friend called to let me know that La Pupusa Guanaca had reopened. This place was our introduction to El Salvadoran food. We ordered a pork and cheese pupusa ($1.25), a cheese pupusa ($1.25), a beef empanada ($1.00), a cheese empanada ($1.00), a side of fried yucca ($2.50), and tacos Salvadorenos. As always, the food was great.

Verdict: I strongly recommend La Pupusa Guanaca. I have never been disappointed by their food. I usually do not eat at Pupusa since it is a small space and sometimes gets quite crowded. Instead, you should take your food next door the Brendan Behan and eat while drinking a few pints. (Make sure you clean up all your trash before you leave and use the garbage can outside the Behan.)
