Gitlo’s
August 12th, 2008
I’ve been reading the hype about Gitlo’s for months, but I didn’t believe that it would be that good. Now, I’m kicking myself for not going sooner because it really was a great meal!
Here’s what we ordered:
Scallop Shiu Mai w/ Scallops ($3.75)

Stuffed Long Hot Pepper w/ Shrimp Paste ($4.25)

XO Sauce Daikon Cake ($3.65)

Curry Spare Ribs w/ Potato ($4.35)

Cantonese Dumplings ($3.75)

Taro Spring Rolls ($3.55)

Char Siu So (BBQ Pork in Puff Pastry; $3.75)
(sorry, no picture)
Everything we ordered was delicious enough to order again. However, the highlights were the Char Siu So (the sauce in these were fantastic), the Curry Spare Ribs (the curry was delicious), the Cantonese Dumplings, and the XO Sauce Daikon Cake.
Verdict: One of my new favorite places!

jinx!!!
ooh curry spare ribs, we somehow missed that. Well there will be a next time.
Next time you are there, GET THE CUSTARD CREAM BUNS. They are amazing. This is what I said in my Yelp review: “This thing is amazing. It looks almost exactly like a soft-boiled egg. The buns come out perfectly white and egg-shaped. When you bite into them, you get this rush of buttery custard colored exactly like an egg yolk, except of course it tastes like a really great sweet custard. So you’re sitting there with this egg-looking thing in your hand that’s not an egg at all. It’s a wonderful experience, something that I would not have expected from such an everyday item at a really informal place.”
Darius – Damn, PK was just at Gitlo’s again yesterday (while I was at work). I wish I saw this comment before she went. I’ll definitely order them next time. Thanks for the tip.
