Wangs Fast Food

May 9th, 2009

I’ve been hearing about Wang’s Fast Food for years. And, as a dumpling addict, I have no excuse for not going sooner (besides the fact that I rarely go to Somerville).  Since I couldn’t remember which type of dumpling were supposed to be the best, we got an order of the Shrimp & Pork ($5.50) and the Pork & Leek ($5.25). There are 12 dumplings  in an order so it is a pretty good deal.  However, the best deal is to get an order of 50 frozen dumplings ($11-$13) to cook at home.   (There are many ways to cook the dumplings. I usually boil them for about 5 minutes and than pan fry them until the bottoms are nice and a little bit brown.)

Verdict: Delicious dumplings!

Peach Farm (again)

September 16th, 2008

About two Fridays ago, Pk & I were planning on going to the Brookline Greekfest, but, at the last minute, we decided to check out The Red Heroine that was playing for free in Chinatown. After the film (and the live performance), we headed to Peach Farm.

We started with an order of Peking Ravioli ($4.50) which were better than average, but not as good as down the street at King Fung Garden.

Then, we got the Jumbo Crab with Ginger & Scallion (about $25) which was pretty damn big and delicious.

We also ordered the Fried Stuffed Taro Root with Duck ($12) which was great, but I wish that it had a bit more duck in it.

Verdict: One of my favorite restaurants in Chinatown and my #1 spot for seafood in Boston. Peach Farm on Urbanspoon

Gitlo’s

August 12th, 2008

I’ve been reading the hype about Gitlo’s for months, but I didn’t believe that it would be that good. Now, I’m kicking myself for not going sooner because it really was a great meal!

Here’s what we ordered:

Scallop Shiu Mai w/ Scallops ($3.75)

gitlos shiu mai with scallops

Stuffed Long Hot Pepper w/ Shrimp Paste ($4.25)

gitlo's hot peppers with shrimp paste

XO Sauce Daikon Cake ($3.65)

Gitlo's Daikon Cake

Curry Spare Ribs w/ Potato ($4.35)

Gitlo's Curry Spare Ribs

Cantonese Dumplings ($3.75)

Gitlo's Cantonese Dumplings

Taro Spring Rolls ($3.55)

Char Siu So (BBQ Pork in Puff Pastry; $3.75)

(sorry, no picture)

Everything we ordered was delicious enough to order again. However, the highlights were the Char Siu So (the sauce in these were fantastic), the Curry Spare Ribs (the curry was delicious), the Cantonese Dumplings, and the XO Sauce Daikon Cake.

Verdict: One of my new favorite places!
