After getting back from vacation, PK & I were craving some Indian food. Too tired from the traveling, we decided against driving to Punjabi Dhaba and ordering takeout instead. We gave Ghazal a shot. We ordered Dahi Chat Papdi, Lamb Vindaloo, & Shahi Paneer Korma.
About 15 minutes after we ordered, our food arrived! Everything was good and was quite spicy (as we requested).
Verdict: While Ghazal is not in my top choices for Indian food in town, I was pleased with the meal and will be ordering from them again…

On Saturday, PK & I went to Royal Fried Chicken. At about $6 for 2 meaty breasts, 1 thigh, 1 leg, tons of fries, and a soda, it was a delicious bargain. The chicken was very crispy and tender. We also got a small order of buffalo wings for about $4 that also came with fries and a soda. These were also pretty good, but I’d stick with the fried chicken.
My only warning is that on hot summer days, you should get your food to go since the place gets way too hot for comfort.
Verdict: Tasty and cheap!

Alright, this is a short post with no pictures… The other night, some friends and I got some food from El Oriental de Cuba. I haven’t been there for a while, but everyone raves about their cubano sandwiches.
Over the last 10 years that I’ve lived in JP, I’ve only heard a handful of people praise the cubano on the other side of the road at Miami Restaurant.
I think that the food at both restaurants is great, but if I was to judge them solely based on the quality of the cubano, Miami Restaurant wins.

I don’t really care much about going out for breakfast, except for when my destination is dim sum. Breakfast is the meal that I care the least about (outside my addiction to the turkey & swiss croissant at Fiore’s) so I’m not about to wait in line. When friends want to meet up for breakfast, I go, but I’m not happy about it. A few weeks ago, a friend suggested going to the Dogwood Cafe. I didn’t even know that they served a weekend breakfast.
As soon as I got the menu, I saw the Dogwood Breakfast Pizza ( $11). Since it had both sausage and bacon and is served with home fries (that are more like crispy potato wedges), I knew that I had to order it even though it was more expensive than the basic breakfast sandwich that I was planning on ordering.
This is now one of my new favorite breakfast foods. The pizza is pretty big so you should definitely share it or be ready to take about half of it home.
Verdict: Mmmm pizza for breakfast!

I have to work one Saturday a month. While I am not a fan of working on a weekend, and am quite cranky when I do wake up, the one thing that I do look forward to is Fiore’s.
While I am a huge fan of bacon, egg, & cheese sandwiches on an english muffin, they are no longer my favorite when it comes to a breakfast sandwich. Over the last few months, I’ve become addicted to the Crossaint Turkey & Swiss sandwich at Fiore’s. While the sandwich is pretty small, and sort of expensive for what it is (around $3.00), my working Saturdays would just not be complete without one.

The other week, PK and I checked out the new City Feed on Centre St. I have never been to their original location since if I am on that side of JP, I usually find myself at La Papusa, Yelli’s (sp?), Cafe Miami, or Alex’s Chimis.
I can’t really comment on the grocery store part since I didn’t pay much attention to the shelves. I was too focused on the sandwiches.

PK got a Eight Fold Path (tofu, hoisin, cilantro, mint, carrots, cucumber, peanuts; $6.29) which we both liked.
I got a Prosciutto di Parma (mozzarella, tomato, basil, olive oil, balsamic vinegar; $8.99). The thing that confuses me most about the sandwich is its name since there is no prosciutto on the sandwich (or in the list of ingredients on their sandwich board). Besides that, the sandwich tasted exactly as one would expect based on the ingredients.

Verdict: While PK’s sandwich was good (and fairly priced), my sandwich was a joke for almost $9 (yeah, I should’ve known better when I ordered it). If I’m going to spend that much on a sandwich, I really expect a lot more when it comes to ingredients and/or flavor.
P.S. Sorry for only taking a picture of half of each sandwich…We had already eaten half by the time I took them.

A few weeks ago, Tim was visiting from Chicago. On his last night, he wanted to eat in JP. PK and I were planning to take him to WonderSpice (I was craving the Crispy Ginger Fish), but he wanted Indian so we went to Bukhara. I’m normally hesitant to go here since I find their food so inconsistent, but since I haven’t been to Bukhara in over a year, it was worth trying again.
We ordered the Gosht Biryani ($13.95) that was just mediocre. (It made me wish that we drove to Kabab & Tandoor in Waltham for their delicious biryani.) We also ordered a Beef or Lamb Vindaloo (can’t remember which one we got; $12.50 or $13.50). While this had a lot of spice (which we asked for) and the meat was nice and tender, the flavor was pretty bland. Our final dish was Saag Paneer ($11.95) which won the award for one of the worst versions of this dish that I have ever had. Our Chat Papri never showed up (and we were not charged for it).
Besides having a below average meal, it was annoying to sit at the table and, within a span of just a few minutes, have about three or four different waiters come to our table to take our order.
Over the years, I have had a few good meals here, but the majority have been disappointing.
Verdict: Too expensive to take a gamble on the quality of the meal.
